Terms of Benefits
Many schools provide some of the following working benefits: complete contract bonus, renewal contract bonus, performance bonus and attendance bonus. Public schools usually provide plane tickets and accommodation or living subsidy. The following terms of benefits are provided for your references.
Contract
In order to ensure the teaching quality, the teacher should at least commit one year at the same school under normal condition. Teachers will be assisted to sign the contract directly with schools. In the contract, it states clearly the contract duration, monthly/hourly payment, pay date, teaching hours/time, related benefits, rules, responsibilities...etc. For providing better quality of services, EUREKA will also sign with teachers an agreement where states mainly the rules and responsibilities.
Pay
We will ensure schools to pay teachers the minimum monthly payment at the amount of NT$50,000 as the starting salary. It is very common that schools will evaluate the performances of the hired teachers at their first month or first three months of teaching as a probation period. The raise will be usually given after the probation time.
 |
Airfares
Most private schools will not provide the airfares to teachers. However, public schools will usually reimburse the one-way air-ticket after you arrive in Taiwan, and reimburse the remaining after your contract expires. |
Accommodation
 |
Schools may or may not provide a free accommodation. If a free accommodation is not arranged, the teacher will be assisted to find a living place in close proximity to the school, usually within walking distance or a bus/subway ride away. If a school provides a free or a furnishedaccommodation, a dormitory apartment is usually provided and shared with other teachers. Some schools might provide the housing subsidy. The cost of living in Taiwan is low. You may spend only US$200~US$300 per month to have a whole house, apartment or a room depending on the living location. |
| Accommodations in big cities tend to be crowded and expensive; accommodations in remote areas are larger and usually cost less. |
Possible Bonus
| Complete Contract Bonus |
For those who complete a one-year contract, bonus will be awarded after the teacher has fulfilled the contract term. The amount of bonus will be stated on the Employment Contract. |
| Renewal Contract Bonus |
For those who complete a one-year contract, and are awarded a renewal, bonus may be paid out upon contract renewal. Only qualified teachers are given the option to extend their contracts beyond one year. The amount of bonus will be stated on the Employment contract. |
| Attendance Bonus |
Most schools provide the attendance bonus to teachers with the amount of NT$600 to NT$3000. Attendance is perceived an important factor for evaluating whether the teacher has tardiness on work. |
| Performance Bonus |
In order to facilitate a qualitative teaching, some schools might give the performance bonus to the hired teachers either on a monthly basis or on certain period of durations. |
Medical Coverage
After the foreign teacher gets the working visa and ARC, he/she will be assisted to apply the health insurance. National health care insurance is provided. Some schools pay all medical coverage. Some schools pay 70% of all expenses, and the teachers pay the rest. Some are doing the half and half payment. The cost for the medical coverage paid by the teacher is around US$30 a month.
Paid Vacation
 |
All Taiwan national holidays are granted paid vacation. Private Schools have at least one week of paid winter break; while public schools have usually three week of paid winter vacation. It varies between schools. In Taiwan, there are usually 10 nationally recognized paid holidays such as New Year, Chinese New Year, 228 Memorial Day, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, National Day,... etc. |
Work Permit and Alien Resident Card (ARC)
Our affiliated schools will assist you to apply a work permit and ARC. It takes about two to four weeks to get a work permit from filing a document to have the legal document issued. You can either come to Taiwan by applying a working visa at ROC overseas representative offices (It is very common that most schools will not apply a work permit for a teacher while he/she is still in overseas), or come to Taiwan by tourist visa which can be transferred to a working visa soon after you arrive in Taiwan. Schools will also assist you to get an Alien Resident Card (A.R.C.) at the local police authorities. Your working permit will expire after one year, and can be extended after then. Any violation of the contract will result in revoking of the work permit.
Orientation and Training
 |
We will assist teachers to adjust to the living and teaching environment in Taiwan. The orientation and training program will be arranged after the teachers arrive in Taiwan. Because schools usually prefer teachers to start work as early as possible, learning the art of teaching Chinese-speaking children takes an intensive training at the first beginning. Schools usually provide the training courses based on their teaching materials. We will continually provide feedback to the foreign teachers and assist them to become superior and respectful teachers. |
Access to Teaching Materials and Resources
Teachers are eligible to access to all teaching materials and resources. Schools usually provide lesson plans and curriculum for the teachers. However, teachers are encouraged to add their own teaching styles or contents to make teaching more fun and enjoyable.
Career Advancement Opportunities
According to regulations, the teachers should not accept other teaching positions provided by other schools without the prior consent from your working schools.
EUREKA will assist those teachers who have outstanding performance to get more teaching offers. After you finish your contract in one school, EUREKA will assist you to find another suitable teaching position either in another school or in another town of Taiwan
